We are saddened by the loss of our sister in Christ, Debbie Vasel. Debbie has been the faithful wife of John Vasel, faithful mother to their five children (Tom, Jeanette, Andy, Melissa and Matthew), faithful grandmother to their eighteen grandchildren, a faithful friend, as well as a faithful member of the Heartland Baptist Church for approximately seven years. She filled many roles in our body of believers here in Alliance, NE. She was involved in church cleaning, decoration for special events, Good Word Ministry (a ministry of encouragement), discipleship, piano playing, special music and about anything that her pastor would ask her to do. We are thankful for the faithful servant that she has been. Our body of believers will surely miss her joyful presence and consistent testimony in our midst. Debbie is the first member in the history of Heartland Baptist Church to graduate into eternity.
Debbie was NOT the person she was because she was a good person. Debbie was the person she was because she came to the realization she was NOT a good person. She came to the admission that she was a sinner as the Bible says (Romans 3:10, 23). She was who she was because of Jesus Christ. She had a personal relationship with God because of what Christ did for her on the cross, shedding His blood for her sin. She responded to the Gospel in October of 1979 as she repented, believed, confessed the Gospel (the death, burial and resurrection of Christ) and was born again. This was the foundation of who Debbie was.To be sure where you will spend eternity please click the button below, How To be Saved.
What defined her day to day living was her commitment to that relationship she founded through Christ in October of 1979. Her motto in living a committed life unto her Savior can be defined by a quote that she had written in her Bible: "To give Christ less than all is to give Christ nothing at all!" Also, she had written her motto for her walk with Christ in these words: "Do not leave your post! ...I will put on my armor > I will stand my ground > I will keep the faith!" This is what defined who Debbie Vasel was.
We praise the Lord that our sister is free from her eleven year battle with cancer. She is in the presence of our loving Heavenly Father and His dear Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. She is whole in mind and body for eternity. She has shed her corruptible tabernacle and has put on incorruption. We are rejoicing in her victory over sin, death and this world through Jesus Christ her Savior. We will miss her dearly as we seek to move forward with her legacy as a motivation for our faithful service to the Savior until the trumpet sounds or until God's appointed time for each of us to pass into eternity.
